The Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) also rose in defense of Apostle Babalola’s legacy, stressing that he was not poor. According to the church, Babalola owned a befitting house and a Ford Jeep of his time, while his surviving children are “blessed, fulfilled, and quietly serving the Lord.”
Reacting to the matter, Pastor Biodun Fatoyinbo issued a statement on Thursday, saying he only became aware of the controversy after reading CAC’s press release addressing remarks attributed to him during a sermon.
“My attention has been drawn to a press release regarding statements credited to me about the family of the late and highly revered Apostle Joseph Ayo Babalola, a most distinguished father of faith in Nigeria and across the world,” Fatoyinbo said.
He clarified that his message had been misinterpreted:
“Let me state clearly that at no point in that sermon did I speak negatively about the children of the late Apostle and father of faith. I would never do such a thing. The raw recording of the message is online and open for verification.”
Concluding his statement, the COZA pastor extended an apology:
“Finally, I sincerely apologize if any of my words have caused distress, hurt, or discomfort to the CAC, the family of the late Apostle Babalola, or his associates.”
